In general, batteries in the last decade have improved to be more resilient to the way we charge our phones. However, battery capacity still inevitably declines with age. Below are several methods to prolong the life of your battery.
- Regular and shorter duration "top-ups" (e.g., charging from 40% to 80%) are much better for Li-ion batteries than long full charge cycles
- Avoid idle charging that happens overnight. Keeping the phone plugged in for extended periods of time is generally not recommended
- Avoid using the phone while charging. This is especially true with CPU-intensive activities such as gaming and watching videos while charging, which distorts charging cycles and lowers battery lifespan
Note: temperature is also a key contributor to battery longevity. High temperatures can stress the battery and cause capacity loss far more quickly than at lower temperatures.
