General Optimizations
The more apps that are opened on your device, the slower the speed and performance you'll see. With the screen turned on, tap on the "square" icon at the bottom of the screen. If there are apps that you do not need any longer, simply swipe the app to the left or right (or tap on the "X" in the upper-right of each app).
Enabling DuraSpeed
Another effective method of optimizing your phone's overall performance is by enabling DuraSpeed.
When DuraSpeed is turned off, performance and battery life are diminished because all apps are able to run in the background, even if you're not using them. When DuraSpeed is turned on, you can select which apps are able to run in the background, even when they are not being used.
If you enable DuraSpeed, certain category of apps are generally good to keep on. For example, social media, mail, messaging, banking, transportation, and surveillance apps are best to keep running in the background at all times, enabling instant notifications even when these apps are not opened. For apps that are not DuraSpeed enabled, notifications may be delayed when the app has not been opened for an extended period of time.
To summarize, the proper usage of DuraSpeed will enable optimal performance. Here are instructions to turn it on or off.
- Go to Settings > DuraSpeed to turn DuraSpeed on (or off completely).
- Next, tap the slider icon to the right of each app to toggle it on and off.
- The fewer the number of apps selected, the greater the speed and performance will be.
Further Optimizations
Another tip is to review apps that are draining the most battery. With that information, you can close the app or optimize with DuraSpeed (see below). Go to Settings > Battery. In the upper-right corner, tap on the three vertical dots, then tap Battery usage. Below the Battery usage chart, the apps that have consumed the most battery since the last charge will be displayed at the top. If a particular app is consuming more battery than you expect, tap on it to "Force stop" the app. You can restart the app by tapping on the app on your homescreen.
On this same screen, you can also tap "Battery optimization" to optimize battery life for each app, thus enabling better performance as well.
