There are numerous reasons why your battery may be depleting quicker than normal. Here is a list of settings to review for battery optimization:
- Screen brightness: lower the screen brightness to save on battery. Consider turning on adaptive brightness as well, located in Settings > Display > Adaptive brightness.
- Screen sleep: go to Settings > Display and tap "Sleep". Select 15 seconds to have the display automatically turn off after 15 seconds of inactivity.
- Turn off GPS: when you're not using GPS, turn it off. Alternatively, you can set app preferences to prevent GPS usage unless the app is open. Note: GPS is one of the biggest culprits for draining your battery.
- Cellular signal: if your wireless network strength is below two bars, your phone is consuming a lot more battery to maintain a good connection. Consider turning on Wi-Fi when your cellular signal is low.
- Check your apps: certain apps are notorious for battery consumption. Go to Settings > Battery. Tap on the icon with the three dots (upper-right corner) and then tap "Battery usage". Below the chart will be a list of apps that have consumed the most battery since your last charge. You can tap on the app and tap "Force Stop" if you wish to stop the app, which will prevent further battery drain from the app.
- Turn on battery saver: Go to Settings > Battery. Tap on "Battery Saver" to turn it on. Note: can also toggle on and off through Quick Settings (swipe down from top of screen to view Quick Settings).
- Turn of Bluetooth: if you're not using Bluetooth accessories, turn off Bluetooth.
